"Hart sings as though she had the god DNA herself" - dctheatre.com

The war is over, Agamemnon and Clytemnestra murdered, and Orestes and Electra await the judgment of the citizens and the gods. Euripides’ gripping drama is deftly re-imagined by playwright Anne Washburn in this razor-sharp modern adaptation. Directed by Aaron Posner.

Back on the Boards Again: RH is thrilled to join the cast of "ORESTES: A Tragic Romp" at the Folger Theatre in DC this winter!! The production will run January 27 - March 7 before moving to the Two River Theatre Company stage in Red Bank NJ, March 23 - April 11.

"A musical powerhouse": Blog Love live review for Joe's Pub concert 12/4!!

Thanks to Sal Bono for his live review of our return to Joe's Pub! What a great show we had. Thanks all!

"Rebecca Hart and The Sexy Children took the stage Friday night at Joe's Pub in Astor Place only to have the jaws of each person in attendance hit the floor. Rebecca, a performance artist, actress and musical powerhouse, has more fortitude than most male singers. Her voice is a combination between Tori Amos and Bruce Springsteen, her lyrics are about love and life with a spin of comedy that only Woody Allen could write{....}While looking in Rebecca and her Sexy Children may seem like an average bar band, after witnessing what she has to offer, she proves otherwise. Rebecca is one to keep an eye out for.

& What's with the "pixie" thing, people?

"The pixyish Hart is equal parts brash frontwoman and vulnerable deadpan comedian, her stage training giving her a comfort level in relating to the audience and being the center of attention. Acoustic guitar in hand, she adds the sexy to her band, The Sexy Children, comprised of Licorice’s Dave Lott and Matt Epstein and drummer Dan Barman. Adding a couple new songs to those on her recently released Live At Joe’s Pub, Hart played a marvelous opening set, guaranteeing good press by dedicating a cover of “Whipping Post” to your humble narrator. Distracting everyone from the fact that most people immediately considered me the most abusive bastard on the boat, Hart belted out the final stanza with a staggering power that left the uninitiated stunned."

Earvolution.com Live Review!! (Knitting Factory Main Space, 12/4/08)

"Hart has a Broadway voice and a rock star soul ... wit and passion ... a marvelously startling power. {She} gets an excellent boost from her Sexy Children: Barman and Epstein are a superb rhythm section and add wonderful texture to her finely crafted songs. Normally out front of Licorice, Lott flourishes in the role of sideman, accentuating Hart’s acoustic rhythms with blues and classic rock riffs and ample though non-intrusive wah-wah guitar effects. It’s a four piece that is developing into a wonderful band."

Whoo-Hoo! Thanks to Dave Schulz and everyone at Earvolution.

MUSIC REVIEWS

Praise for Hart LIVE:

"Rebecca Hart, along with her dynamic gentlemen trio... without a doubt sounded to be the best performer brought in all year. The band with their seemingly part rebel, part pixy lead singer initially seemed a bit distant yet throughout the show Hart made amusingly selfdeprecating jokes, instantly winning over the audience. Her humorous contributions between numbers gave context to her music. As fellow comrades and fellow New Yorkers, the group is a new collaboration, but definitely a good one. Whether the four will remain together musically only time will tell, but Hart's addition to the canon of good voices is more or less assured." - Thea Peterson RED&BLACK, Washington & Jefferson College

"Her huge voice captures your attention...a great performer!" - Billie Eaves, Director of Student Activities, Washington & Jefferson College

"What a voice!!" - Martin Drury, Abbey National Theatre, Ireland

"Rebecca Hart literally stopped everyone in their tracks with a mesmerizing live performance on-air. This singing star has landed in Ireland to bowl us over with her magic." - Michael Duffy, Dundalk FM 100, Ireland

Praise for 'CRASH & STRUM'

"Yow. Exactly the kind of record we're a sucker for. A chick singer/songwriter with a rocker's soul that has something to say and knows how to get her point across. Tasty across the board from start to finish. Hart is a triple threat that plays beautifully, sings unangelically, and could make a living as a lo-fi Diane Warren. A great slice of pop as art without the pretensions. Hart is sure to grab you. Debuts like this deserve special attention when they come along. " (Midwest Record Recap, 5/06)

"Rebecca Hart demonstrates what it is to be a true artist on her album 'Crash & Strum'... The sound is a cross between Natalie Merchant and Tracy Chapman; folksy & funky collude to produce a very distinct and captivating sound....There is a depth here and the poetic character of her lyrics is what is so compelling. A clear message of independence... A strong & confident woman who demands listening." -Shaun Flagg, Skope Magazine, Jan/Feb Issue #29

"Not exactly the coffeehouse folk of some female singer-songwriters, Rebecca Hart has some funky styles to showcase on the opening “The Vibe”, which brings to mind a cross between Michelle Shocked and Tracy Chapman. It's a rootsy pop feel that is quite decent... Hart likes her folksy moody pop, particularly on the sparse, murky title track, which evolves into a big, rousing, Etheridge-lite rocker. And it’s this little kickstart that makes the ensuing “Wishing Hour” gel much quicker. The sleeper pick has to be the mellow “Last Dance”, which sounds like a cross between Jewel and k.d. lang. Another little nugget is the soft and dub-flavored “Out of Me” that brings to mind Natalie Merchant. The record ends with another uplifting pop rock number entitled “Big Fire” that has a lot of fire in its belly. " - Jason MacNeil, PopMatters Music Review 9/8/06

"“Crash & Strum” is great AAA that smokes out the differences between jazz rock and pop for a fusion that will be greeted with open arms across the country." (smother.net, 5/06)

"Rebecca Hart has a big voice and plays the hell out of her acoustic guitar. ... Excellent. And it came from New York City." (Doug Treadway, 'Nightflying')

"Smoky and sultry, New York City-bred vocalist/guitarist Rebecca Hart sounds like the love child of Suzanne Vega and Steely Dan. Whether singing about love, politics or art, Hart infuses her subtle yet powerful music with an explicit sense of drama (she was theatrically trained at Brown University) and the occasional power chord - making Crash & Strum a thoroughly satisfying 40 minutes." (Michael Popke, 'Sea of Tranquility')
